Brunch ‘n’ BrainZ is an idea inspired by the intellectual, philosophical salon events that were hosted throughout many eras, but primarily during the 17th and 18th centuries in France, what we now refer to as the Period of Enlightenment.
These small gatherings occurred in the living and dining rooms of people capable of gathering thought leaders, activists, artists, scientists, visionaries and researchers that were discovering novel realities, ideas and ways of living that could transform life as they knew it. The objective was to bring all these folks together in a friendly, yet inspirational space where ideas would be discussed, questioned and sharpened until they reached a point of true influence and potential. Importantly, it was a way for attendees to learn and perhaps impact their own lives for the greater good.
The tradition originates from 16th century Italy. What one may not know is that these salon events were like incubators for very avant-garde thoughts and political advancement, and were largely led by women, referred to as Salonnieres. These women were pivotal in creating, hosting and facilitating the discussions, ultimately impacting how the intellectual and political landscape was transformed over time.
Some Notable examples of Salonnieres: Madame de Sévigné, Madame Geoffrin, and Madame de Staël.
Now, in the 2020s, Brunch ‘n’ BrainZ aspires to create a fun, collegial environment where thinkers and dreamers can come together to discuss a wide variety or topics – science, art, food, politics, better living, community, and more – all while sharing a delicious community potluck brunch. Folks are invited to share their knowledge and what they are most excited about, and everyone can participate in the open forum style of presentation and discussion. This event it what we all make it. The hope is that we all leave, each time, with our bellies full and our hearts and minds full. This is a space to connect, learn and create a world of possibilities.
